Multiple-time BJJ world champion Augusto “Tanquinho” Mendes made his UFC debut at UFC Fight Night Pittsburgh on just six days notice against undefeated, heavy-handed striker Cody Galbrandt of Team Alpha Male. Garbrandt chose not to engaged Taquinho in his guard and worked to keep the fight on the feet. Late in the first round, Garbrandt dropped Tanquinho and landed several shots to the head before the referee stepped in to end the fight. Tanquinho’s record drops to 5-1, while Garbrandt’s improves to an impressive 8-0 with seven knockout victories.
