The 2013 adult black belt featherweight world champion, Augusto “Tanquinho” Mendes, will have his debut in MMA this Saturday, in Mesa, Arizona.
Mendes has been training the sport since 2012, when he met with former UFC champion Ben Henderson.
Mendes’ debut will be against Jamie Carskaden as part of the event Duel for Domination 6.
He talked to GRACIEMAG.com about the new challenge in his career.
“I just found out that they changed my opponent for the forth time. As it’s an amateur fight, I’m trying not to give much importance to who I’m fighting. All I want is to fight already,”said Augusto.
He also talked about his training: “I feel great, mentally and physically, I have grown much more mature with my MMA training and I do feel I’m ready for this new career”.
Wrapping up, Tanquinho also talked about whether he has a strategy or not for his first ever MMA match: “I’ll get a feel of the match first and see what opportunities come about. My standing game is improving and I’ll try to connect a few punches and kicks if a I can. Of course, I still feel more comfortable on the ground so if I can I’m gonna use my Jiu-Jitsu”.
