Erberth after beating Dimitrius Souza in the absolute final. Marco Aurélio/IBJJF
Last weekend the town of Barueri hosted the São Paulo International Open. Saturday saw the classical contests play out, and Sunday was no-gi day.
The insatiable Erberth Santos came out the absolute winner in the gi. After failing to hit the weight to enter his weight division, he had only the open to worry about, and ended up running into Dimitrius Souza (Alliance) in the final. After winning, Erberth revealed that he will no longer be a part of Almeida JJ and that he will be going on to build his own association, named ES Team.
He later talked to Graciemag and offered more details. “The team is not associated with any other team,” he said. “I will continue to do the eventual camp at André Galvão’s school, and, when that’s the case, I will fight under his banner. When it isn’t, I will be representing only my team.”
Women’s classical
Bia Basílio (Almeida JJ) first took gold in the lightweight division, and then defeated heavyweight champion Carina Santi (G13) in the absolute final.
No-gi
Rubens Pedroso (NS Brotherhood) and Renata Marinho (Alliance) won double gold on Sunday. In addition, there was a UFC athlete competing: Matheus Nicolau, who pulled off a winning campaign in the featherweight division.
