When you think of combat sports, what comes to mind?
MMA, of course.
Boxing.
Muay Thai.
Brazilian jiu-jitsu…maybe.
But if you’re UFC color commentator and BJJ black belt Joe Rogan, another sport comes to mind: football.
“Football’s a combat sport,” Rogan told Brendan Schaub and Bryan Callen on the latest episode of the Joe Rogan Experience. “It’s just got rigid rules. When you’re running full clip at each other and literally knocking each other unconscious because you’re head-butting each other, which is a big part of what football was until they stopped people from doing that. It’s a combat sport. It just doesn’t have kicks or punches.”
Joe Rogan, of course, has a penchant for making controversial claims, and his claim about football will not doubt have its doubters.
What do you think, though? Should football be considered a combat sport?
