Most people would agree that jiu-jitsu schools should conduct background checks on instructors to make sure they are not sex offenders. Why shouldn’t they? All other professions that involve working with children require these background checks; why should jiu-jitsu be any different.
Ryron and Rener Gracie — the owners of Gracie University — are taking a step further, though. They’re requiring not only all teachers, but all students, present and future, to undergo these background checks.
Is this a necessary step in ensuring the safety of children, or is this just overkill?
