Ryan Hall Finally Gets an Opponent: Ricardo Lamas

BJJ legend turned MMA phenom Ryan Hall has finally got an opponent in Ricardo Lamas. Hall has been publicly campaigning for a match-up (any match-up!) with increasing volume in recent months. Potential opponents have been few and far between for the ‘Wizard’ as his meta-breaking MMA game have turned any match-up with him into a high-risk affair.

The UFC have just announced that Ricardo Lamas (19-8) will be the one to welcome Hall back to the octagon at the upcoming UFC Fight Night 174 in Oklahoma City. No slouch on the ground, Lamas possesses a black belt in BJJ and boasts a background as an NCAA Division III wrestler. Five of his nineteen wins have come by way of submission, with notable subs of Cub Swanson, Dennis Bermudez and Charles Oliveira. Interestingly, he has never been submitted in MMA. Lamas will be hoping to pull himself out of a recent slump that has seen him go 1-3 in his last four bouts.

Hall (8-1) on the other hand is undefeated since his debut loss in MMA in 2006. Since then he has racked up three submission wins (not including his time in The Ultimate Fighter), with a notable heel-hook win over BJJ and MMA legend, B.J. Penn. Ryan Hall will look to keep his winning streak intact and possibly hand Ricardo Lamas his first submission loss in the octagon come May 2nd.
