Hollywood personality and spiritual guru Russel Brand has earned his purple belt under Roger Gracie Black Belt, Chris Cleere.
Brand has been training since 2016. Like most of us, he’s given credit to the activity for having a vastly positive impact on his well-being and has guided other beginners in their journey. He even has a video on his YouTube Channel titled, “5 ways Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu has changed my life”.
5 Ways Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Changed My Life
He shared the announcement in a post on instagram,
“Big Day in BJJ. Honoured to receive my purple belt from @chriscleere. And also a purple eye (from @jacksonkickboxing).”
Over the years, he’s made it known that he once suffered from debilitating heroin addiction. When interviewed by the Los Angeles Times, he was asked, “Where do traditional fitness activities fit for you and recovering addicts?” To which Brand responded, “For me, daily exercise is important. I’ll go running, do Brazilian jiu-jitsu, and also some quite aggressive forms of yoga. You have to design your own program, what’s right for your body and your mind. For me, meditation is not nearly enough. I need exercise too. And community.”
Congratulations on the accomplishment, Russel. We’re happy to see you succeed and spread the philosophies of BJJ to your followers.
