Rousimar Palhares and Joey Beltran failed drug tests following UFC on FX 6 in Australia and have been suspended, the UFC announced on Thursday.
Palhares tested positive for elevated levels of testosterone, while Beltran’s test showed traces of nandrolone. Both fighters will serve nine-month suspensions retroactive to Dec. 14, the date of the UFC on FX show.
“The UFC organization has a strict, consistent policy against the use of any illegal and/or performance-enhancing drugs, stimulants or masking agents,” the company announced through a statement on UFC.com.
Palhares and Beltran must pass drug tests upon completion of their suspensions before receiving clearance to compete again, according to UFC officials.
At the Australian UFC card, Palhares lost to Hector Lombard by knockout in the first round of their contest. Palhares also broke his foot during the fight, and the positive test only adds insult to injury.
Beltran originally won his UFC on FX fight with Igor Pokrajac by unanimous decision. However, with the positive test, UFC officials tell GRACIEMAG.com that the fight’s result is changed to a no-contest.
