Ronda Rousey Is Officially Part Of The WWE, Appears At First-Ever Women’s Royal Rumble

Ronda Rousey is part of the WWE.

It’s long been speculated, but now it’s official.

The former and original UFC Women’s Bantamweight Champion — famous for dominating the women’s division with seeming ease for most of her MMA career — made her appearance last night at the Royal Rumble.

The timing couldn’t have been more appropriate, either. Last night was WWE’s first ever all-female Royal Rumble. Being that Ronda had taken part in the UFC’s first-ever women’s match, it only made sense for her to appear at the first-ever women’s Royal Rumble.

Ronda appeared just after WWE’s Asuka won the Rumble. WWE Women’s Champions Alexa Bliss and Charlotte Flair (daughter of wrestling legend Rick Flair) appeared by her side.

All of a sudden, Joan Jett’s “Bad Reputation” played throughout the arena and Ronda Rousey’s name appeared on the screen, written in the same style as her late rowdy namesake, “Rowdy” Roddy Piper, who officially passed on the “Rowdy” nickname to Rousey years ago.

Ronda then walked out, stepped into the ring with her new co-workers, pointed to the WWE sign, and shook hands with Chief Brand Officer of the WWE and daughter of WWE owner Vince McMahon, Stephanie McMahon.

Ronda later told ESPN’s Ramona Shelburne:

This is my life now. First priority on my timeline for the next several years. This is not a smash-and-grab; this is not a publicity stunt. When I first met with Triple H, I told him, ‘There are other things I can do with my time that’ll make way more money, but I won’t enjoy nearly as much.

Ronda’s excitement about her new job was obvious:

We here at the Jiu-Jitsu Times would like to congratulate Ronda Rousey on her new job. As much as we’re going to miss her in the cage, the WWE is now where Ronda’s heart is, and doing what you love is what is more important in life.

Congratulations to new WWE wrestler and perhaps future Women’s Champion “Rowdy” Ronda Rousey!
