Ronda Rousey: “I Can Beat Any Woman On Earth In BJJ, Gi Or No-Gi In Pure Jiu-Jitsu”

The world of Mixed Martial Arts is in for a treat this coming July 5, 2014. On this day, world-renowned bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey will go up against Brazilian Jiu Jitsu black belter Alexis Davis at UFC 175 in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Trained under the famous Cesar Gracie, black belter Davis is confident about her legit submission skills. Rousey however, is not in any way intimidated by her upcoming opponent. In fact, she recently talked about the age-old BJJ versus Judo debate and stirred up some controversial issues. During her interview with Damon Martin in his FOX show The Great MMA Debate, Rousey said that this new challenge is definitely interesting.

Ronda Rousey: “I Can Beat Any Woman On Earth In BJJ Gi or No-Gi In Pure Jiu-Jitsu”

According to her, she couldn’t stand watching MMA coming from her Judo background with people around her saying that Jiu Jitsu people would beat any Judo player. To her, it is a mere stereotype that needs to be proven wrong. Ronda Rousey believes that she could beat just about any girl in the world no matter the weight category, gi or no-gi, black belt, or in any ruleset that they want in pure Jiu Jitsu.

Ever since Rousey started fighting, she has had a number of achievements in the world of Judo. In fact, she became the first American woman to earn an Olympic medal in Judo at the Summer Olympics held in Beijing in 2008. She is the consensus number one pound-for-pound female MMA fighter and she is well known not only for her fighting skills but for her infamous verbal attacks as well.
Referring to her upcoming fight against Brazilian Jiu Jitsu black belt Alexis Davis, she said, ” This is the kind of person that I’ve been hearing about all my life. This kind of fight should be the type to tap me out with no problems whatsoever and it would be great to finally prove a point against her.” Rousey’s strong Judoka principles lies in Newaza, the Judo term for groundwork. She believes that Judokas that excel in Newaza have never really gotten enough respect and this is why she is hell bent on proving a point to the MMA world. While naysayers tell her that her striking is terrible and that Alexis Davis’ noted Muay Thai skills might be tough to handle, she believes that beating her opponent in any way would be more than enough to prove a good point.
