Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza Released From UFC Roster Following Loss at UFC 262

Brazilian jiu-jitsu legend and longtime elite MMA fighter Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza is officially no longer with the UFC. ESPN reported the news, citing Jacare’s manager Andre Pederneiras.

At UFC 262 on May 15, Jacare lost to Andre Muniz via an arm break submission. That bout was the last on Jacare’s UFC contract, and he is now a free agent. Neither Pederneiras nor Jacare have given any indication as to the 41-year old’s next move.

The loss to Muniz was Jacare’s fourth in a row and the first submission loss of his storied career. His last win was a 2018 TKO against Chris Weidman.

Following the loss at UFC 262, Jacare posted to Instagram that he had undergone successful surgery on his broken arm. “Everything is well,” he wrote.

In MMA, Jacare sports a 26-10 record and is a former Strikeforce middleweight champion. He joined the UFC in 2013 and quickly came close to a middleweight title shot after winning his first five fights in the organization.

In jiu-jitsu, Jacare is considered one of the best competitors of all time. He is an ADCC and IBJJF world champion, and holds a pair of legendary wins over Roger Gracie.
