No pressure, right? After a stellar career in ground fighting, including a fistful of IBJJF and ADCC championships, black belt Rodolfo Vieira trained his eyes on mixed martial arts and the UFC. He spent the last three years working toward a champion’s run in MMA, and apparently it shows–when the American Top Team all star makes his debut this weekend in Uruguay it’ll be on the main card.
“Right before coming out [for press day] I found out I would be fighting on the main card, which I thought would only happen after my fourth or fifth fight!” wrote Vieira on Instagram.
Vieira signed with UFC back in June. He squares off on August 10 against fellow middleweight Oskar Piechota. The grappling champ hasn’t competed in jiu-jitsu since 2018, but his list of submission victories from that part of his career includes Mahamed Aly, Kit Dale, Rafael Lovato Jr., Felipe Pena, and Bernardo Faria.

Hoje foi o media day e a primeira encarada. Confesso que fiquei muito nervoso, mas foi bem legal, soube pouco antes de vir pra cá que eu estaria lutando no card principal, coisa que achei que aconteceria lá pra depois da quarta ou quinta luta! Haha @ufc_brasil @ufc ————————————————————————
Today was the UFC media day and the first faceoff, I have to say that I was really nervous, but it was very cool. Right before coming out here, I found out I would be fighting on the main card, which I thought would only happen after my fourth or fifth fight in the UFC!
