Tanner Rice and his brothers have decided to reopen their BJJ Academy, Rice Brothers Jiu-Jitsu despite being situated in Redding, California and currently being subject to a “Stay At Home” order. Tanner Rice is a black belt under Rubens Charles “Cobrinha” Maciel and is the first American to be promoted to black belt by the legendary Alliance coach. After starting the sport at the tender young age of 6, Rice received his black belt at the age of 19 after winning the 2012 IBJJF World Championships at brown belt. Most recently, Rice came away from the IBJJF European Championships 2020 with a bronze medal.
Rice Brothers BJJ was originally named Amazonas Jiu-Jitsu as it was run by the sibling’s father and original BJJ coach, Rod Rice initially. Since then, the brothers have rebranded the gym and since Tanner’s promotion to black belt, also severed ties with Alliance and Cobrinha. Tanner Rice was the one to first make the announcement that he and his brothers intended to reopen the academy, via his personal Instagram page:
