Rhalan Gracie is now set to become the latest member of Jiu Jitsu’s first family to step into the Bellator cage at Bellator 242 on May 9th. He follows in the footsteps of a number of his relatives, including Robson Gracie Jr who currently owns an unbeaten record for Bellator. The most successful Gracie so far has been Neiman, who recently challenged for the Bellator Welterweight World Championship. Rhalan’s debut does of course hinge on the event actually going ahead and considering that virtually every major fight promotion has had to cancel upcoming events, it’s a very real possibility that this event is either postponed or cancelled too.
Rhalan owns a less than impressive MMA record so far, having only fought on two occasions and losing in both efforts. The last of these two fights came around twelve years ago, so the ring rust that Rhalan will be facing is very real. His opponent has clearly been selected in order to give Rhalan a fair chance at coming out on top and impressing in his debut as Dominic Summer owns a 1-3 MMA record himself, with all three of his losses coming by way of Knockout.
So far, the following bouts have been announced for Bellator 242 at the SAP Center in San Jose, California on May 9th:
Alan Benson vs. Evan Gubera
Ivan Batinich vs. Joe Kropschot
Hyder Amil vs. Brandon Laroco
Gabriel Pacheco vs. Abraham Vesau
Rhalan Gracie vs. Dominic Sumner
Ryan Attebery vs. Mike Howard
Daniel Oseguera vs. Sorcrates Hernandez
