Jake Shields didn’t only play a role in submitting cancer tonight, he submitted one of the most well-known fighters in the world: “The Dragon” Lyoto Machida.
Shields trapped Machida in a front head lock early in the match. The action went to the ground where Jake dominated for the first five minutes – first in side control, then in mount, then on the back.
Machida eventually got his opponent in full guard, going for an omoplatta that Shields easily shut down.
Shields went on the offensive again when the two were in 50/50. Though Machida was able to fight off the first heel hook, he was not able to fight off the second, allowing Shields to win via heel hook.
