The most anticipated superfight of the night at the Copa Podio 6 ended with a slick submission from a highly skilled black belt.
The no-gi match between teen purple belt prodigy Mica Galvao and accomplished Russian black belt Magomed Abdulkadirov had the potential to go three rounds, but only one was needed to determine the winner.
Galvao began the match by pulling guard. Abdulkadirov initially had some trouble getting past the young purple belt’s legs, but it didn’t take long before he made it to Galvao’s back and put on a rear naked choke. Galvao worked hard to defend against the choke, but ultimately tapped, leaving Abdulkadirov the winner in under a minute.
The match took place right before the Heavyweight Grand Prix finale, and although it was brief, it provided a great burst of excitement for the Copa Podio, which included the “Purple Games,” the Heavyweight Grand Prix, and multiple superfights.
