Growing up in the Gracie family, young Rener was a first-hand eye witness to the development and perpetuation of jiu-jitsu in the United States. He came up watching his father Rorion teach out of the garage, was privy to the earliest developments of the UFC, and would later play a major role in spreading jiu-jitsu across the globe. Recently, he’s been heavily involved in reforming police officer training throughout the United States amidst a veritable pandemic of under-training.
As stated on his Instagram feed, when he returned from a kayaking trip this past weekend he received a text message confirming that second only to the inception of the UFC, the jiu-jitsu world will soon witness the biggest opportunity for growth it has seen in a generation. While he was coy on his post regarding the specific details, Jiu-Jitsu Times reached out to Rener for comment and he elaborates:
“Phase 1 of jiu-jitsu in America was the ‘Garage Days’ before anyone knew who the Gracies were. Phase 2 was the UFC era and all the exposure for our art that came with it. Phase 3 is now upon us and we can’t wait to share it with the world in the months to come.”
Keep an eye out for any big announcements, certainly the post is intriguing enough to warrant a follow-up.
