In a rare opportunity for the avid martial arts memorabilia collector, a number of never-before-seen as well as out of print t-shirts, Quikflip hoodies, and UFC walkout gear is available for auction from Rener Gracie’s personal collection.
Certain items like Gracie series t-shirts that have hit the market in the last twenty years are part of the collection that spans well over 100 different articles of clothing, all unique, all size large. Other items that have never been for sale and are a ‘one of one’ collectible item include Rener’s original Shark Tank branded Quikflip hoodie that he used on the set of the world famous show, walkout jumpsuits for fighters such as Brian Ortega, Lyoto Machida, and Ronda Rousey, as well as prototype designs of certain shirts that never made it to market. He is even offering an original design t-shirt of venerable 27-time World Champion Renato Laranja, arguably the crown jewel of the set to some. The auction is currently live on Instagram on Rener’s page in the comments section, with the current top bid as of press time at $10,000 by “Andy.Eidson1,” who is confirmed to be a jiu-jitsu practitioner that lives in Tennessee. Best part, all the proceeds are going towards providing jiu-jitsu scholarhips towards bullying victims.
Rener has been known to reach out to bullied victims and provide them outlets to learn the skills necessary to give them the confidence to stand up to bullies that they may face at school. In what was originally intended as an effort to clear up closet space and donate the lot of his unworn or no longer worn gear to Goodwill, he came to the conclusion that perhaps a fan of jiu-jitsu or martial arts somewhere in the world would treasure the collection far more than the average person. He asks for serious bidders only and one simple request for the winner; please do not try to re-sell these items individually.
Included in this once-in-a-lifetime purge of gear is the Roots Of Fight collection, a collaboration with the seasoned apparel company that includes limited edition and currently out-of-print Helio Gracie releases and original artwork and designs. Roots Of Fight confirms on Rener’s Instagram that they will be including a $250 gift card to the winner of the auction, further adding to the packages value.
If you watch Rener’s ten minute explanation, you will witness quite an impressive display of t-shirts all separated by the time period that they came out. Needless to say, one lucky collector who wears a size large will be in for a treat as it is hard to see another opportunity to get your hands on collectibles like these to occur in the future.
The auction is live now in the comments section on Rener’s Instagram post and will likely only run through Tuesday. The winner of the auction is set to receive the entire collection shipped to their door, with up to five items being available to be autographed if requested.
