Remembering Max Soviak, Grappler And Navy Corpsman Killed In Kabul

22-year old Maxton Soviak of Berlin Heights, Ohio was tragically killed by suicide bombers on Thursday, August 26, 2021 along with 12 U.S. Marines and dozens of Afghans.

A 2017 graduate of Edison High School, Max was a multi-sport athlete and competitor on the wrestling team. While stationed in Guam, Max trained martial arts at Custom Fitness and Spike 22 MMA. In 2019, he was victorious in the All-Military grappling match at the Submit VI Jiu-Jitsu tournament against Rico Respicio of the U.S. Army. Before deploying, his primary duty station was Camp Pendleton, CA.

In a statement released by the U.S. Navy, Max was described as “a wonderful son who loved his family, his community, and was proud to serve in the U.S. Navy.”
