Previously, we have written an article about how when Jiu-Jitsu becomes an Olympic sport it will have slight variations from what we are accustomed to with the IBJJF. We mentioned in that article that registration had yet to be announced. Fortunately, USA Wresting announced today that competitors may now sign up, however, registration closes May 18th, and no registration will be accepted at the event.
There will be both gi and no gi divisions. Competitors of all skills are encouraged to participate, as there are various skill divisions. Official membership with Team USA Wrestling is required to compete (can be purchased HERE along with official registration). The event will take place in Wilmington, North Carolina.
There are 8 weight classes for men and five for women:
Men: 62 kg, 66 kg, 71 kg, 77 kg, 84 kg, 92 kg, 100 kg, +100 kg
Women: 53 kg, 58 kg, 64 kg, 71 kg, +71 kg
Weigh-ins will take place on the day of the event at 9 AM. No gi grappling is scheduled to begin at 11 AM and will be followed by gi grappling.
Winners of divisions will be asked to compete at the international grappling tournament set to take place later this year.
