One of the most exciting promotions and concepts in grappling, Quintet, is returning to action soon. On March 12, female grapplers will take center stage as three teams of five women will compete at Quintet Fight Night 6 from Tokyo.
Check out the full team rosters below:
Although these might not be the most recognizable names for North American grappling fans, Quintet remains a can’t-miss event. For those that are unfamiliar with Quintet, it is a team-based grappling competition in which teams of five grapplers go head-to-head in submission-only matches. If a grappler wins by submission, she stays on the mat to face the opposing team’s next grappler. If a match does not end in submission, then both grapplers leave the mat and each team brings on a new grappler. A team wins by eliminating all of the other team’s competitors.
The promotion is the brainchild of Japanese MMA legend Kazushi Sakuraba.
Part of what makes Quintet to exciting is the pace of the matches. Referees are incredibly fast to penalize competitors for stalling, and those penalties go toward the team’s total. And with no points or overtime involved, grapplers have no incentive to conserve their energy so they tend to be ultra-aggressive.
Quintet Fight Night 6 airs live on UFC Fightpass on March 12 at 4:00 AM ET.
