Gillian Davis gets. stuff. done. Over the past couple of years, she’s earned her PhD in Microbiology and Molecular Genetics, had a baby, continued to run a BJJ gym with her husband, lost over 100lbs, and made her comeback to competition at her regular weight on the Fight 2 Win stage. Now she can add another accomplishment to her list: earning her BJJ black belt.
Davis was presented with her belt by Erik Paulson, and to make the moment even more special, Davis’ husband, Garry, also earned his black belt that same day from Paulson. Gillian is Paulson’s first female black belt.
Davis is particularly known in the female BJJ community for her tireless efforts as an admin of the Women’s Grappling Network on Facebook. Now at over 8,000 members, the group (also run by Jessie Brown) has for years provided a source of motivation, education, support, and camaraderie for women from all over the world who train jiu-jitsu.
Given Davis’ tendency to set lofty goals and achieve them, there’s no telling what she’ll accomplish next both on and off the mats.
