PFL Signs Olympic Gold Medalist & Championship Boxer Claressa Shields

Twenty-five-year-old elite boxing championship Claressa Shields is expanding her career to the MMA world, and she’ll be kicking off her new venture with a signing with PFL.

Shields, who won gold at both the 2012 and 2016 Olympics, is a multiple-time world champion in three weight classes and is considered the best pound-for-pound female boxer by ESPN and The Ring. She’s also one of only eight boxers in history to simultaneously hold titles in the WBC, WBA, IBF, and IBO.

The undisputed middleweight world champion has been teasing a transition to MMA for some time now, but MMA Junkie confirmed through an anonymous source that PFL had signed her. She will reportedly not be competing in the 2021 season, instead taking individual fights while also continuing her boxing career.

Shields is currently 10-0 in her professional boxing career after going 77-1 as an amateur boxer.
