The main event of last night’s PFL 3 ended in a controversial call after the referee appeared to miss Renan Ferreira tapping out to a choke from Fabricio Werdum.
Werdum kicked off the fight by quickly bringing Ferreira to the ground, battling against his opponent’s efforts to get back to his feet and attempting to transition to mount. While Ferreira managed to get the top position, he soon found himself inside Werdum’s triangle choke. Ferreira appeared to tap multiple times, but the referee didn’t stop the fight. Werdum’s triangle loosened, and Ferreira defended against a momentary armbar attempt to get on top and land a series of hammerfists until Werdum went out.
Ferreira was declared the winner by knockout in a huge and controversial upset at 2:32 in the first round.
