Pantheon Grappling is getting ready for it’s first event as partners with Flograppling and has already started to set up a blockbuster main card, Ashley Williams v Geo Martinez. The pair have already met once in the Quarter-finals of EBI 15 where Williams came up short against the 10th Planet representative Martinez. This shouldn’t come as much of a surprise, by the time they met Martinez had already won three different editions of The Eddie Bravo Invitational in two different weight-classes and would go on to finish 2nd at EBI 15 after getting past Williams.
The difference in experience is pretty much a moot point at the moment as Ashley Williams has had an incredible run over the last year or two, staking his claim to the top of the mountain at the lighter weight-classes of professional grappling. The last edition of Pantheon Grappling saw Williams take home the Lightweight title after beating Kamil Wilk via Rear-Naked Choke. For many fighters, challenging for a title in a second weight-class might be daunting but for Williams, it’s pretty much another day in the office.
Ironically, Ashley Williams v Geo Martinez is a rematch for Williams for a title in a second weight class when Polaris 12 saw him beat Richard Alarcon in another rematch, for another second Championship. This title was actually in an even lower weight-class, at Bantamweight, after he’d already captured the Polaris Lightweight title in a thrilling decision win over Ethan Crelinsten.
Pantheon 3 will take place on May 2nd in Birmingham, England and airs live on FloGrappling.com.
