If you don’t already know how to osoto, there are worse people to learn from than Ronda Rousey and Ricky Lindell.
Billed as the first judo throw the Olympian ever learned, osoto gari is a staple of the early BJJ arsenal. You’ll need to start with one lapel grip and one sleeve. Step at a 45 degree angle, “look at your watch,” “answer the phone,” and shift your full weight into the stepping leg to off balance the opponent. After that, the far leg comes across and sweeps low on your opponent’s sturdy leg, like chopping down a tree, and follow through like you’re trying to medal.
