It’s been over a month since the last Fight 2 Win event, but Friday, the promotion is coming back with a bang.
F2W 172 will see the event come back to Dallas with a main event featuring a face-off between Yuri Simoes and Devhonte Johnson.
The match is a great pairing that will see a decorated veteran of the sport get tested against the accomplished Johnson, who received his black belt in 2018. Simoes, of course, is a two-time ADCC champion who has also picked up multiple titles at Worlds and Pans over the years. Simoes is 1-1 in his two most recent F2W appearances, defeating Rafael Lovato Jr. at F2W 104 before facing Vagner Rocha at F2W 164.
Johnson has already had a very successful 2021 after cruising to the top of the podium at the Houston Open and then taking home gold at Pans. He boasts a 4-1 record as a black belt on the F2W stage, with his last match resulting in a win against Guilherme Augusto at F2W 159 at the end of last year. He and Simoes are worthy adversaries for each other, and this is a match deserving of the main event.
The co-main event will see 2019 ADCC veteran Oliver Taza go up against two-time American Nationals champion Jaime Canuto. Canuto last competed for the promotion in 2019, when he picked up a win against Edwin Najmi at F2W 131. Taza, on the other hand, is coming off a win against Johnatha Alves at last weekend’s Who’s Number One: Jones vs. Panza.
Prior to the main and co-main event, we’ll see a main card match featuring 2017 No-Gi World Champion Arnaldo Maidana versus Fellipe Trovo, who picked up three medals at American Nationals in 2019.
As always, we can look forward to many more matches on the undercard from local competitors and rising stars from across the country.
F2W 172 will take place on Friday, June 3, and can be streamed live on FloGrappling.
