summer promoUFC middleweight legend Anderson Silva has been suspended by the Nevada Athletic Commission after a hearing this Thursday, Aug. 13, in Las Vegas.

The hearing regarded the two failed drug tests by Silva before UFC 183, when he fought Nick Diaz.

The results found Dronastolone metabolites and Androsterone in Silva’s samples.

The fighter’s lawyers claimed the results were caused by Silva taking a sexual performance enhancing pill a friend brought him from Thailand.

They also pleaded Silva had no intentions in taking illegal substances once the pill was taken with other purposes.

The Nevada commissioners did not take Silva’s defense in consideration and even called it “hokey”.

In the end, Anderson Silva received a one-year suspension starting on January 31, 2015, which means he could be fighting again as early as February 2016.

The former middleweight champion was also fined in 100% of the $200,000 win bonus and 30% of his fight purse of $600,000, adding up to $380,000.

Nick Diaz, Anderson’s opponent at UFC 183, will also be facing the commissioners in a future date for failing the after-fight test with elevated levels of marijuana metabolites.

In another decision, the NAC reverted the fight result from a unanimous decision to Silva to a no-contest.
