Mo Jassim revealed some of his plans for ADCC 2021 and promises that the event will be bigger and better than ever before. This comes after the news that Jassim would become the first man to host the ADCC World Championships for a second time thanks to the roaring success of ADCC 2019. Not only did ADCC 2019 deliver the elite level of grappling action that we’ve grown accustomed to from the organisation, but there was also a number of storylines that took center stage, really engaging fans from all over the world.
The next generation made an appearance as both Nicky Ryan and Tye Ruotolo scored some impressive victories despite not medaling, making a statement ahead of their inevitable second attempt at ADCC 2021. We also got to see the first ever British (and Welsh) ADCC medalist in Ffion Davies, who stormed through the women’s -66kg division and beat some of the best female grapplers on the planet. Of course, the story that took over the weekend was Lachlan Giles playing the part of the David as he took out several Goliaths enroute to his Bronze medal in the absolute division.
John Danaher Blue Belt, Nick Rodriguez, wrestled his way to victories over some of the world’s best grapplers to earn a silver medal, being awarded his purple belt on the podium. Danaher’s first prodigy, Gordon Ryan, also came good by winning double gold at ADCC 2019 and revealed after the event that he did so with a broken hand. This victory also set up a meeting with Andre Galvao for ADCC 2021 after he took the points victory over Felipe Pena to win his fourth straight ADCC Superfight Championship.
