An earthquake reaching 8.9 on the Richter scale shook Japan today and is considered to be the most powerful ever registered in the nation. The tremor afflicted the northeastern coast of Japan, producing a tsunami up to six meters (20 feet) high.
Japanese MMA events scheduled for the coming days were canceled. The occurrence left a number of regions around the planet on high alert, Hawaii being one of them. With warning of waves between 2 and 3 meters tall were issued.
