The year of 2014 has not been easy for the UFC. With a right knee injury, Cain Velasquez is another victim of tough training, thus his fight against Fabricio Werdum for the heavyweight belt was replaced by another valid duel for a chance to win the interim belt. The black belt opponent will be the New Zealander Mark Hunt.
Cain was already dragging a problem in the meniscus of his right knee for some time now. However, while training to face the finisher Werdum, Velasquez injured the same knee practicing a sprawl, which definitely took him away from the fight. The champion will go through surgery to fix his knee on Thursday.
Werdum’s new opponent, Mark Hunt won the lottery. Despite coming from great victories in the cage, the latest on Roy Nelson, Hunt earned availability in the division due to the fact that other big names had already a fight scheduled in their calendar for him to become the perfect opponent to duel Fabricio at UFC 180, which will happen in Mexico.
So, dear reader, what did you think of Werdum’s new opponent? Will Jiu-Jitsu prevail at UFC 180? Comment here!
