UFC 260 now has a main and co-main event with some major starpower, according to ESPN and a post-fight announcement from Dana White after tonight’s UFC Fight Island 7.
Heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic will be facing off against Francis Ngannou for the title at the March 27 event, for which a location and venue is still yet to be determined. Their fight will be a rematch — Miocic and Ngannou last faced each other three years ago at UFC 220. Miocic came away with the decision win that time, but Ngannou is on a four-fight winning streak and has finished all four of his most recent opponents. Miocic, however, earned his heavyweight title back after losing it to Daniel Cormier, coming back to defeat Cormier twice to erase any doubt that he deserved his place at the top.
The co-main event of the night will be a featherweight bout between Brian Ortega and current champion Alexander Volkanovski. Ortega is back in the win column following a victory over “The Korean Zombie” Chan Sung Jung back in October after Max Holloway served him the first and only loss of his professional career. Still, Volkanovski is currently riding a 16-fight winning streak that most recently features two wins over Holloway, and Ortega will have to pull out all the stops to beat him and claim the title.
UFC 260 will take place on Saturday, March 27.
