Mikey Musumeci has spoken out and is begging people to stay home after seeing how some of his loved ones (and their loved ones) have been impacted by the coronavirus.
Musumeci said that his second-cousin is in the ER due to breathing problems caused by the virus, adding that ten people connected to his friends and family have died from COVID-19.
“I’m so sick of seeing people not taking this seriously. These are trying times for not only for our country, the US, but also the world. It is so scary what is happening. My second cousin from New Jersey was just rushed to the ER 2 days ago because he cannot breathe from corona, as well as I have close friends/family that have lost over 10 people from corona. Thousands of people are dying daily, people in our families and our communities. Even though this is a worldwide pandemic, we can all do our parts to either stop it or even encourage it. When you listen to the standards put forth by some of the smartest medical professionals to stay home and avoid contact with other people, you are helping to stop the spread of this deadly virus. Some might think/feel that you are young and can fight this illness. But that ABSOLUTELY does not give you the right not to care about the well being of other people and put their lives in harms way. This is not only morally wrong, it is inhumane. Your actions are not only putting you at risk, you are also contributing to the spread of this deadly illness. Anyone who knows me knows how much I not only love jiujitsu, but I live jiujitsu, but the lives and well beings of people could NEVER be put second to a hobby that I love to do. God bless all people in the medical profession selflessly risking their lives everyday to try to save people’s lives, as well as people/family of loved ones suffering or have died from this. My condolences to you all. We will get through this hard time, but we all need to come together as a community and think about others well beings over our personal interests/hobbies.“
Musumeci’s concerns align with the opinion of BJJ black belt and Microbiology and Molecular Genetics Ph.D. holder Gillian Davis, who recently warned against training with people you don’t live with. Lachlan Giles also interviewed a BJJ purple belt and clinical microbiologist to help get an expert’s opinions out into the jiu-jitsu world.
