Mikey Musumeci’s 12-Second Submission From 2019 To Be Formally Recognized As A World Record
Back in 2019, Mikey Musumeci made jaws drop around the globe when he won IBJJF Worlds in just twelve seconds. Musumeci was up against Rodnei Barbosa in the finals and wasted absolutely no time in latching onto a straight ankle lock, getting the tap almost immediately.
The submission turned out to be the fastest in an adult male black belt finals match for the IBJJF, breaking the previous record of 17 seconds that had been held by Rodrigo “Comprido” Medieiros since 1999, when he also won Worlds.
In a social media post, Musumeci said that the record is in the process of being updated on the website for the Guinness Book of World Records. The IBJJF, however, has already formally recognized the achievement in an official letter.
Hopefully, it won’t be long until Musumeci is officially listed as a world record holder.
