The Jiu-Jitsu Pan kicked off this Thursday in Los Angeles. The event will include big names from world Jiu-Jitsu, but one of the most hotly-disputed divisions – middleweight – suffered a major loss. Pan 2010 runner-up Abmar Barbosa is signed up but will be unable to compete.

“I’m out and I’m also doubtful for the World Pro. I was at Robert Drysdale’s training camp and couldn’t put up with the pain I’ve been feeling in my groin,” the black belt tells

“I’m already back in Brazil, where I’m having some exams taken. The chance of it being a hernia has been dispelled, but I’m waiting on more exams to find out the reason for the swelling. I beg everyone’s forgiveness, everyone who keeps up with, and I can say that I’m not fighting because it is very painful. I don’t have health insurance in the USA and I had to come to Brazil to be treated. I’ll be 100% for the Worlds, though,” he says in closing.
