Two major title matches have been announced today for the Who’s Number One event scheduled for October 20.
FloGrappling has announced that Beatriz Mesquita will take on Luiza Monteiro in the main event of the card, and Ffion Davies vs. Nathalie Ribeiro will serve as the co-main event.
There are titles on the line for both matches, with the 125lb championship going to whoever wins the main event. Neither Mesquita nor Monteiro will have an easy time of it — Mesquita is a 2017 ADCC champion with a heavy collection of world championship medals to hang around her neck. This will be her WNO debut, and though her exciting style is well-suited to the event, Monteiro is still a very worthy opponent for her. The first Queen of the Mats champion also has multiple world championship titles to her name and closed out the 2020 Pans final with teammate Rafaela Guedes. A finalist at last year’s 3CG Kumite 7, Monteiro will be eager to make up for her loss against Nathalie Ribeiro in her WNO debut. This is a match that’s very deserving of both the main event slot and the title.
The co-main event will be no less exciting, with Davies back in action for the first time in 2021. Davies is a 2019 ADCC runner-up with a 2018 No-Gi World Championship title to her name. She’s established herself as one of the most successful grapplers not only in Europe, but in the world, and her dynamic style has made her a favorite to watch over the years. She’ll have a real challenge on her hands in her WNO debut; Ribeiro is a force to be reckoned with. Ribeiro has already collected a No-Gi Pans title this year, following up a No-Gi World Championship win in 2020. Ribeiro won her WNO debut, and she’ll be hoping to extend her undefeated streak with a win against Davies.
There are more matches still to be announced for this card, so keep an eye out for more updates.
WNO: Mesquita vs. Monteiro will take place on Wednesday, October 20, and can be streamed live on FloGrappling.
