Shortly before the weigh-ins for UFC 209 took place, media began reporting that Khabib Nurmagomedov had been hospitalized. Spectators wondered if an injury had knocked Khabib out of the competition and canceled his fight with Tony Ferguson.
During the weigh-ins, Ferguson was present but Nurmagomedov did not appear. His opponent qualified to participate in this event in the designated weight class; a scale indicated he weighed nearly 155 pounds.

Soon after, a UFC statement clarified the situation. Khabib Nurmagomedov had received treatment at a medical center and been released from the facility. However, a physician urged him not to take part in the fight. It was canceled as a result.
Two previous matches involving Ferguson and Nurmagomedov also failed to take place. Unfortunately, Khabib became injured while training for a 2015 event. Another injury rendered Tony Ferguson unable to fight in 2016.
