The 2022 ADCC World Championships have already been hit by the injury bug. Heavyweight Brazilian Trials winner Gutemberg Pereira has been forced out the competition due to injury and will be replaced by his GF Team teammate and 2019 ADCC veteran, Max Gimenis.
The ADCC announced the change on Instagram.
Pereira impressed at the second ADCC Brazilian trials, submitting each of his four opponents to capture gold. He parlayed that success into a lightning fast submission win over Fellipe Andrew earlier this year at BJJ Stars 8.
Gimenis is veteran competitor across a variety of rulesets. As a black belt, he is an IBJJF Pans champion and a Worlds silver medalist, and holds notable wins over fellow ADCC competitors John Hansen and Devhonte Johnson. At the 2019 ADCC World Championships, Gimenis lost his first-round match against Hansen by way of referee’s decision.
How to watch: The 2022 ADCC World Championships take place on September 17-18 and will air live on FloGrappling (subscription required).
