Jiu-jitsu and submission grappling legend Marcus “Buchecha” Almeida is ready to take on a grappling specialist in MMA. On Friday, April 22, Almeida will face Senegalese wrestling champion Oumar “Reug Reug” Kane at ONE: Reloaded.
Almeida confirmed the booking on his Instagram.
One of the most accomplished jiu-jitsu competitors ever, Almeida made his professional MMA debut in September 2021, defeating kickboxer Anderson “Braddock” Silva by first-round submission. In December 2021, Almeida picked up his second career win over Ji Won Kang — another rear-naked choke.
Kane is an imposing physical specimen, to say the least. After a prolific career in Senegalese wrestling, “Reug Reug” made his MMA debut in December 2019 with a ground-and-pound victory. He would win his next two bouts, both under the ONE Championship banner, before losing to Kirill Grishenko in April 2021. Kane has not competed since that defeat.
The 32-year old Almeida is a staggering 13-time IBJJF world champion, as well as a two-time ADCC world champion. He has not competed in grappling since his loss to Gordon Ryan in the finals of absolute division of the 2019 ADCC Championships.
