One of the best to ever throw on a gi has his first MMA fight scheduled for early 2021, and boy is his competition fierce.
Multiple-time ADCC and IBJJF champion Marcus “Buchecha” Almeida is set to face fellow grappler and ONE Championship newcomer, Oumar Kane of Senegal. First reported by MMA Journalist Raphael Marinho and later confirmed by ONE Championship Chatri Sityodtong To Jiu-Jitsu Times, the bout is currently scheduled for February 24, 2021.
Unlike his opponent, Kane has already had an MMA fight under Ares FC back in December of 2019. A round two KO, the wrestler also showcased his impressive grappling credentials with some devastating throws.
An undefeated champion of Senegalese Wrestling, the 27-year-old has had experience both in grappling and striking thanks to that ruleset. And at 6’5, 265 lbs. the athlete is an incredible combination of physical power and high level technique.
First announcing the career shift last July, Buchecha was quick to sign with ONE FC and move his training camps to Evolve MMA in Singapore. As one of the greatest BJJ athletes of all time, his decision to fight MMA caused massive waves throughout the combat sports world.
Hopefully we get to see a grappling masterclass from both gentlemen in a few months.
The JJT will continue to follow this story as it develops.
