Marcelo Garcia Inducted Into ADCC Hall of Fame

The ADCC continues to fill its official Hall of Fame. On Monday, the organization announced that Marcelo Garcia, widely considered one of the best pound-for-pound jiu-jitsu players ever, is now a member of the ADCC Hall of Fame.

Garcia was a four-time ADCC champion, winning his first title in 2003 in a tournament that included victories over Renzo Gracie and Vitor Ribeiro. In 2005, Garcia would again win his weight class, but one of the most memorable moments of his career came in the absolute division when he defeated former UFC heavyweight champion Ricco Rodriguez by heel hook. Garcia would return to win his weight class again in 2007, submitting each of his opponent. Garcia would make it to the finals of the absolute division that year, but would lose by submission to Robert Drysdale. Garcia captured his final ADCC title in 2011, defeating the likes of Kron Gracie and Leo Vieira.

Garcia has seen plenty of success outside of ADCC competition, as well. He is a five-time IBJJF black belt world champion in the gi, and holds notable wins over Murilo Santana, Andre Galvao, and Roberto “Cyborg” Abreu. Garcia is now one of the most respected inctructors in jiu-jitsu, and has awarded black belts to elite competitors like Matheus Diniz and Gianni Grippo.

Congratulations to Garcia on his induction into the ADCC Hall of Fame.
