Mackenzie Dern has won FloGrappling’s Female Black Belt of the Year award, and that should not be a surprise to anyone.
Dern – who holds a black belt under her father, Wellington Dias – is easily the most recognizable face in women’s jiu-jitsu. Besides being a Pan American Champion, Abu Dhabi World Pro Champion, and multiple-time World Champion, Dern recently entered the unforgiving world if mixed martial arts, where she used her high-level BJJ to not only submit her last opponent at Legacy Fighting Championship, but win herself the promotion’s Submission of the Year.
And if BJJ and MMA weren’t enough, she’s also quite the talented dancer.
Just having fun with my girl kauan!! Good to mix a little dancing in with my training! pic.twitter.com/mDFcOTAK49
