World champion Mackenzie Dern will make her second MMA bout October 14 at Legacy FC 61, in Dallas, Texas. The BJJ black-belt will face the experienced Montana Stewart, whose seven fights include five consecutive wins. In a promotional interview done by Legacy, Dern talked a bit about her early BJJ years, analyzed her transition into MMA and revealed who her inspirations are:
“About 5 years ago MMA was not gonna happen. Then I kinda won a lot of things in jiu-jitsu, and then I was at a point like, what do I want to do now? A new challenge… […] For sure, a couple times I think to me: ‘I really wanna do this?’
”In my opinion what Ronda did for women’s MMA is incredible. She really showed that a woman can make a living off of doing MMA. That’s a big thing in why I decided to try this.”
