Jiu-jitsu sensation turned UFC star Mackenzie Dern wants to take on current ADCC and IBJJF queen Ffion Davies, per reporting by Jiujiteira Magazine.
Dern, who was asked to name potential opponents for a matchup in the new combat sports promotion Abu Dhabi Extreme Championship (“ADXC”), immediately called out the Welsh grappling phenom.
“I would like to fight Ffion Davies,” said Dern during an ADXC press conference. “She is a world champion, and ADCC champion too. She always fights aggressive. I think if you put me and her in the cage, it will be fireworks.”
Dern’s sport jiu-jitsu accolades include ADCC and Mundials gold as well — though those medals were earned back in 2015, before she turned her focus to the world of MMA. The meta in competitive grappling, however, has evolved significantly since the mid-2010s, which would likely turn Dern versus Davies into a bit of an old guard versus new guard battle.
Dern has also reportedly expressed interest in facing fellow UFC strawweight Rose Namajunas, who recently earned a bronze medal finish at the ADCC Denver Open.
