With loads of submissions, knockouts and the presence of big names from the fight world like Murilo Bustamante, José Aldo, Carlão Barreto and Osvaldo Paquetá, among others, WOCS 8 went down this Saturday, June 20, at Rio de Janeiro’s Flamengo Football Club. In the evening’s main events, Rodrigo Zimbica, Viscardi Andrade and Fernando Bruno all added W’s to their records.

In the headlining fight, Rodrigo Ximbica had a hard-nosed Henrique Chocolate ahead of him. Chocolate held out to a rear-naked choke and a deep armbar, and caused his opponent some discomfort with a guillotine. But Ximbica, besides going for the finish the whole time, dominated the action on the ground throughout the three rounds, getting mount and back mount, earning him the unanimous decision win.

Viscardi Andrade managed to contain BTT representative Fernando Paulon. The Gracie Fusion fighter did well in the standup action and landed solid takedowns. In the end, Vescardi took the unanimous decision win. Fernando Bruno didn’t have it easy against Alan Chatuba. Chatuba landed the better strikes, but Fernando landed good takedowns and dominated the ground action, mainly through ground and point, coming out of the decision after three rounds triumphant.

Not counting the three main events, all the other professional bouts ended by knockout or submission. Rodrigo Ratinho didn’t take but a few seconds to knock out Bruno Emílio with strikes. Now Bruno Orelha, Rogério Paraíba, Gustavo Coelho, D’Angelo and Atila Lourenço all submitted their opponents.

Another attraction was the amateur fights, which turned out to look like professional fights, in quality and excitement. In these, Felipe Boanada displayed solid striking skills against Guilherme Nunes, who ended up losing by submission. Now Danilo Pelezinho managed the feat of getting the knockout, even with the protective head gear required for amateur bouts. “I don’t know how he did it. That equipment has a protective layer to keep blows from landing on the face that a car could run over and not break. I tested it! It must have been a really hard blow,” remarked event promoter Tatá Duarte.
