After winning double gold in impressive fashion at the Salvador Open this past weekend, Leandro Lo has finally surpassed Erberth Santos for the IBJJF’s #1 ranking position. With 1,456.4 points, Lo leads Santos’s 1,412.5 points. The IBJJF season is coming to a close in two weeks and only four events left to compete in. Santos is signed up for two — the San Diego Open and the Curitiba Fall Open, — while Lo has yet to sign up for any.
If Santos wins double gold at both of these events he will undoubtedly take home the #1 spot and win the $15,000 grand prize. This season is coming down to the wire, and it’s up to Leandro Lo to sign up for the Curitiba Fall, enter in Erberth Santos’s division and beat him twice like he did at the Brazilian Nationals. All of this will come to an end when the grand prize is given out at the 2017 World Championship in Long Beach, CA, signaling the beginning of the new season.
