It has been reported that legendary BJJ Champion Leandro Lo has been shot and killed while attending a concert in Brazil this past Sunday.
Lo’s lawyer confirmed the incident, and a report acquired by MMA Junkie gives some explanation on the details of how it all may have gone down, alleging that the suspect is Henrique Otavio Oliveira Velozo, a police officer. The report states that Velozo took a bottle from Lo’s table, prompting Lo to take him down and hold him. After being separated, the report states that Velozo took out a gun and shot Lo in the forehead.
Leandro Lo was only 33-years old and has been a trailblazer in the sport of jiu-jitsu. He holds the record for most IBJJF World titles in different weight classes, with 5 to his resume.
The news has sparked reactions across the jiu-jitsu and MMA community, with people pouring support and remembrance for Lo.
