Following over a month of serious health complications exacerbated by COVID-19, the father of UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov has reportedly awoken from a medically induced coma and is coronavirus-free. However, Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov is still in intensive care, according to Russian news outlet RT.
Khabib provided an update on his father’s condition, saying, “The coronavirus itself is behind him, but the virus has had consequences for his kidneys and his heart. As for the virus, there’s no need to worry, only about the other consequences.”
Abdulmanap has experienced a host of significant medical conditions since being hospitalized for symptoms of pneumonia. He underwent heart surgery and was placed into a medically induced coma.
Khabib shared that the coronavirus had caused complications for his father, who had pre-existing heart problems. Multiple UFC fighters, including Khabib’s rival, Conor McGregor, have shared their support for the champ’s father.
