About Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov – Khabib Father
Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov was born on December 10th, 1962. He started his career in freestyle wrestling in Ukraine. He then got involved in Judo and Sambo as well, during the time that he spent in the military. It wasn’t too long before he eventually became the Ukraine regional champion in both Judo and Sambo. Khabib Nurmagomedov’s father was an amazing instructor, who trained and mentored some of the most feared fighters coming from the Dagestan region of Russia.
His main student and star pupil was his own son, Khabib Nurmagomedov, who won the lightweight championship against Al Iaquinta in 2018 and has since defended it against Dustin Poirier at UFC 242. You can watch some of his MMA achievements here. Khabib has been vocal about some of what he considers to be the shortcomings of BJJ training, but he is an outstanding grappler nonetheless. Even just his son’s incredible career alone has solidified Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov’s legacy as one of the greatest coaches from that region.
