It’s been close to three months since Keenan Cornelius split with longtime home gym Atos. After a brief stint cobbling training together in New York, the mat ronin has announced he’s starting his very own gym and fight team: Legion. Or Legion American Jiu-Jitsu. American Jiu-Jitsu Legion? Whatever, it’s brand new, give him a second. It’s IBJJF legit though. He can promote people and everything.
“If anyone doesn’t have team and wants to compete or something, you can just shoot me a message and I have the papers,” he said on the most recent episode of Matburn, his podcasting collab with fellow submission hunter Josh Hinger. The fight team itself is already live, and the gym is in the works in the San Diego area.
Cornelius says the gym is the natural result of no longer being able to train with his former Atos teammates–not necessarily because they won’t, but because of scheduling due to the Atos calendar. The Atos breakup also apparently made his prep for Worlds especially hard this year, with Cornelius facing his first major world championship without a full and proper training camp.
He and Hinger then get into fake martial arts videos, salads, immigrant voting patterns, and lots of jiu-jitsu stuff. The full espisode is viewable here:
